Klentiana Mahmutaj: Court of Appeal upholds conviction

October 16, 2017

Klentiana appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service  in the case of R v Sugrue, where the appellant was convicted of one count of robbery for which he is serving an 11-year prison sentence.

The appellant complained that the admission of a 22-year old  conviction of robbery as bad character evidence rendered his current conviction unsafe but the  Court of Appeal (LJ Hickinbottom, Openshaw J and HHJ Topolski QC) dismissed the appeal  stating they had no “sensible doubt” that the conviction was safe.
