November 19, 2019

The Bar Mock Trial Competition Guildford Regional Heat took place this Saturday at Guildford Crown Court. Organised by the charity Young Citizens, the Guildford Regional Heat saw 8 schools act for the prosecution and defence in two separate criminal law scenarios, in front of judges HHJ Durran, HHJ Taylor, Jeremy Benson QC and Sailesh Mehta.

After three rounds of competition throughout the day, Bishop Luffa School and Glenthorne High School proceeded to the final round, with Glenthorne High School being crowned as the winners. They go through to the national final in March next year at the Central Criminal Court.

Red Lion Chambers wishes to congratulate all the teams who took part, with special thanks to Michael Goodwin QC and Felicia Davy for organising. Thanks also to our Barrister Mentors from chambers who attended on the day and provided advocacy training to the students in advance: David Walbank QC, Aimee Riese, Zoe Chapman, Helena Spector, Nick Hall, Caroline Baker, David Miller, Nina Tavakoli, Sam Smart, Laura Jane Miller, Lauren Sales, Bethan Rogers and Tom Jones.
