January 27, 2020

Following a four year investigation by the Met’s complex fraud team into the contractors responsible for fire alarms at Grenfell Tower, 10 individuals were prosecuted with bribery, theft and money laundering.

On 13.1.20 Michael Goodwin QC’s client, a company director, was acquitted of money laundering at Southwark Crown Court. The case concerned local authority contractors and sub-contractors overcharging for smoke alarm and fire alarms installations across Hackney council’s housing stock, including at Grenfell. Convictions of other defendants for bribery and theft resulted in substantial prison sentences being passed.
