On 18 February 2020 Tim Kiely of Red Lion Chambers, assisted by research from fellow-member Laura Jane Miller, took part in an informal training workshop on Stop and Search Powers at the Hammersmith Law Centre.

February 21, 2020

The workshop was aimed mainly at young people and saw Tim, as well as Michael Herford representing Tuckers Solicitors, giving advice and guidance on how to navigate this fraught area of public policing.

There were detailed breakdowns of police powers, the statutory framework underpinning them, and practical tips for what to do in the event of being detained, searched or arrested.

The organisers hope that, having attended, the audience will be more confident of their rights and better equipped to hold police officers accountable when performing their public duties.
