Tom Forster QC instructed in MP Expenses Claim case

April 24, 2019

Conservative MP for Brecon and Radnorshire Chris Davies pleaded guilty to providing false or misleading information for allowances claims and attempting to do so in March 2016.

He has been ordered to complete 50 hours unpaid community work and fined £1,500, despite the case being found to reach the threshold for a custodial sentence.

Davies, 51, made an unreserved apology following his sentencing at Southwark Crown Court.

Tom Forster QC, defending, said that whilst Mr Davies was “the author of his own misfortune,” and his actions were likely to cause “significant and lasting damage” to his political career, it was striking and critical that there was “no desire to abuse public funds, behave with fraudulent intent or obtain a personal and financial gain.”
